Ice rinks face many maintenance challenges that are often unnoticed until it's to late. Usually rink operators are unaware of how a ice rink piping system is constructed and attribute high and low spots in their ice surface to inconsistent drivers or heavy rink use. Because of its multi-layer construction ice  rinks are susceptible to cool floor leaks and ground heaves associated with sub-floor heat problems. Maybe you’re adding glycol on routine or every so often basis, again inconsistencies in your secondary refrigerant levels is never a good sign.

How do these problems occur, we check the system regularly?

Unfortunately, sand base rinks are not perfect works of construction and are susceptible to many design flaws that sometimes take a short while to appear and other times lay dormant for 10, 20 even 30 years. Because of accelerated installations, improper fluid mixtures, bad welding, etc., all the components build in that frozen slab are constantly attacked by corrosion, air and a whole host of contaminants found in the very sand the rink was constructed of.

What are our options?

Rink Specialists is truly the last legitimate sand based repair Company still servicing on an International level. Most of the original Ice Rink construction and refrigeration companies are no longer in existence so ideas like warranty or insurance claims vary dramatically from rink to rink. Also most companies do not employee anyone who has ever performed repairs, most only hired installers, thankfully Rink Specialists offers free consultation and site visits are offered only for the cost of travel & lodging.

How do we repair this?

If the damage is obvious and accessible, then we can usually talk you through it right over the phone, if more extensive repairs are needed it’s unlikely that you will not even know where to start, but thanks to technology we can begin the troubleshooting process before we are even dispatched to your rink. We will conduct a phone or email exchange to get our wheels rolling about all good and bad possible scenarios. Blue prints are a great starting point for use right away. These documents whether accurate or not will at least provide the manufacturer and age of the rink piping system and hopefully provide the correct construction layout. 

How do we prevent this from happening again?

Most repairs do call for reinforced or better materials whether off the shelf or custom fabricated. The main issue is determining the cause of the damage. Improper installation, faulty materials or even both, but the fact remains that whatever the cause, ensuring it never happens again is our main goal. After all of repairs our customers will be given the proper training and maintenance advice to keep them running without issue for hopefully years to come.
